According to data from China, COVID-19 is less deadly in children than in adults. Even its symptoms are somewhat different in children than in adults. Children infected with COVID-19 may have fever or cough but when we should admitted to hospital them. Let’s know about it.

Last Monday, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a research report on the subject. The study analyzed data from China. However, the characteristics of Covid-19 in the case of children in the United States have not been described in detail. A few data have been analyzed initially.

From February 12 to April 2, data from 1,49,060 corona virus patients confirmed in US laboratories was analyzed. Of these, 2,582 are under 18 years of age. There are 1 lakh 46 thousand 17 people above 18 years.

The study found that 73 percent of pediatric patients (under 18) had symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath. On the other hand, 93 percent of adult patients (18 to 64 years) had this symptom. 5.6 percent of the infected patients or 146 children need to be admitted to the hospital, which is less than the adults. Three of the pediatric patients included in this study died. Of the 146 children admitted to the hospital, 15 need to be taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

This study supports previous research showing that children with Covid-19 may not have frequent fevers or coughs. Covid-19 is not serious in most children. Adults are still more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19. However, social distance and preventive measures are important for all ages. This is because the less seriously ill or the asymptomatic also play an important role in the spread of the disease.

The average age of 2,582 children analyzed was 11 years. Of these, 32 percent are between the ages of 15 and 18. 26 percent of children are 10 to 14 years old. 15 percent of children are under 1 year of age. 11 percent are between the ages of 1 and 4 and 15 percent are between the ages of 5 and 9. Of the 2,582 children, 2,490 have been identified. 56 percent of them are boys. On the other hand, 53 percent of adults over the age of 18 are infected with corona virus.

An analysis of data from China has yielded similar results. In China, 41.5 percent of corona virus patients under the age of 18 had a fever, 46.5 percent had a cough, and 1.6 percent were admitted to the ICU. However, a study conducted in the United States found that the incidence of Covid-19 is lower in children under 18 years of age. However, young children are at greater risk at this age. Of the 146 children admitted to the hospital, 59 were children and 5 out of 15 children in the ICU were very young.

The researchers said that the analysis was performed on a small number of people in the United States. Further research is needed to reach the final conclusion.
